How to care and protect hair in summer

Summer is a season that is as eagerly anticipated as it is particular for hair health: sun, wind, salt spray and chlorine are enemies of the hair. Long exposure to these external factors can in fact lead to dry, brittle and damaged hair. In summer, many habits change and it is therefore appropriate to review the beauty routine of hair care as well.
So let’s take a look at some tips to prepare and treat them at their best!

How to prepare your hair for summer

To best prepare your hair for summer, choose a comfortable and versatile haircut that does not require special styling and can be adapted to various summer situations.
It is best then to avoid lightening treatments, highlights and perms that can further damage the hair by making it brittle.
It is recommended to use straighteners and irons as little as possible to avoid heat shock: better to let the hair air dry! There are also many products for a beach wave effect that do not require special styling.
Finally, always protect hair before exposure to UV rays and chlorine and salt spray.

Treating and caring for hair in summer

To avoid unpleasant surprises in the fall and to have healthy, strong hair even during the summer, include sunscreen hair products in your hair routine to protect and nourish your hair during this particular season.
Choose specific after-sun shampoo (as in our Olea summer): these are usually gentle, softening shampoos. Also remember to rinse your hair after each swim in the sea or pool to remove any residual salt or chlorine. Always use a nourishing after-sun mask, even daily, to remove dryness caused by wind, sand, and UV exposure.
At the beach and pool, always use a protective spray or serum that can act as a barrier against the sun’s rays: these products create an enveloping membrane, like a protective sheath that shields and protects them.
If you have dyed and colored hair, you’d better also get color-protecting products created to sublimate and maintain cosmetic color and to keep it from fading or discharging too much.
Soft hairstyles and gentle drying are two other tips for treating your hair during the summer season. Gathering hair during hot summer days is an everyday act: however, avoid too tight buns and tails that can break already stressed hair. Better low, soft tails and hairstyles.
Finally, if you just can’t do without blow-drying your hair, remember to use heat-protection products, usually heat-protecting sprays.
