Hair mask: what it is and why it is useful
What kind of world would it be without hair masks? Certainly a world of women (but also men) struggling with overly dry, damaged, dull, brittle hair. In short, a real disaster! For women you know, hair is really important: a symbol of femininity that deserves a lot of pampering to always have it in order soft and shiny.
What is a hair mask?
There is always a lot of confusion about the difference between hair conditioners and masks. Both products perform the same function: they nourish and moisturize hair. Conditioner is a lighter and quicker product to use, a mask on the other hand is a deep conditioner meaning it acts deeper and it is richer in active ingredients. Hair masks are left on longer and have a more intense action.
In general, a hair mask is a treatment created with oils, butters, and other nourishing ingredients. They are moisturizing masks that penetrate the hair structure and deeply nourish hair.
When to use it?
Masks are easy to apply and should be part of your hair care routine. They are a true treatment and beauty elixir. Masks should be applied to clean hair, so after shampooing. If the hair being treated is particularly damaged, it is recommended to apply conditioner as well. Then you can proceed to distribute the mask, best with towel-dried hair, taking care to distribute it evenly on all ends. Always respect the application time indicated on the package, generally 8-10 minutes. Then rinse carefully: a superficial rinse could weigh down hair and compromise the style. Masks should be done at least once a week; if hair requires more hydration, it can also be used 2 or 3 times a week.
What are the benefits of a hair mask?
There are different types of masks, depending on the type of hair. The most sought after are those for dry, brittle and damaged hair. In addition, there are colored hair masks or highlights, the specific after-sun masks, skin masks, and masks for colored hair. Depending on their function, regular use of masks has various benefits and advantages: hair will be softer and shinier. Masks repair hair from damage due to excessive exposure to heat, thus making it stronger. Masks for colored hair are ideal for restoring hydration and softness after a coloring treatment. Skin masks are used to soothe irritation or to perform a cleansing scrub. Finally, using masks for curly or straight hair enhances natural curl or straightness and aids in styling.
